Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section one. Article 11 of title 27 of chapter 2 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended as follows:
�27-2045 a. (1) provide and install one or more approved and operational smoke detecting devices in each dwelling unit; however, any occupant who so desires may provide one or more approved devices for installation by the landlord. Such devices shall be installed in accordance with Reference Standard 17.12.
�2. This local law shall take effect 60 days after its enactment.
