Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Paragraph (1) of subdivision (a) of section 26-522 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended to read as follows: a. For the purpose of this chapter the following terms shall have the following meanings: (1). "Dwelling unit" means a dwelling unit as defined in section 27-2004 of the housing maintenance code except that for purposes of this chapter the term dwelling unit shall not include a dwelling unit in a hotel as defined in subdivision twelve of section four of the multiple dwelling law which is occupied transiently as a temporary abode for individuals, families or businesses. This exception shall not apply to any dwelling unit in a hotel which is used for single room occupancy purposes as defined in subdivision seventeen of section 27-2004 of the code and to any dwelling unit in a hotel used for the purpose of providing transitional housing for homeless families with children pursuant to section 21-308 of the code. �2.
