Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Article nine of Section 27-2036.1 of subchapter one of chapter two of title twenty-seven of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 27-2036.1 to read as follows: �27-2036.1 Gas detecting devices. a. On and after January first nineteen hundred ninety-three, every dwelling under construction shall be equipped with an approved and operational gas detecting device as hereinafter provided. On and after January first, nineteen hundred ninety-three, every dwelling undergoing an alteration, as defined by section 27-232 of this code or any dwelling undergoing a conversion from fuel oil burning equipment to gas burning equipment shall be equipped with an approved and operational gas detecting device as hereinafter provided. b. An approved and operational gas detecting device shall be attached to a gas-powered furnace and shall control a separate gas valve located on the premises. c. It shall be the duty of the supplier of gas to install such detectors. d. It shall be the duty of the owner to keep such detectors in good repair; replace any and all devices that are either stolen, removed, missing, or rendered inoperable; and keep such records as the commissioner shall prescribe relating to the installation and maintenance of such devices. �2.
