Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 19-180 to read as follows: �19-180 Prohibition on the use of mobile telephones while driving. a. For purposes of this section, the term "mobile telephone" shall mean a telephone which can be used without the use of a telephone jack and is transportable. b. It shall be prohibited for the operator of a motor vehicle to use a mobile telephone while operating such motor vehicle on any street, highway or road in the City. c. A violation of this section shall be punishable by a penalty of one hundred dollars. �2. This local law shall take effect immediately. LS#2175 10/20/99 T-1999-14
