Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter one of title 17 of the administrative code of the city of New York is hereby amended by adding a new section 17-179, to follow section 17-178, to read as follows: �17-179 Automatic external defibrillators. a. Definitions. For the purposes of this section, the following terms shall have the following meanings: 1. "automatic external defibrillator" means a computerized device approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration for the purpose of cardiac defibrillation. 2. "public places" shall include but not be limited to, (i) stadia and arenas owned by the city of New York, (ii) mass transportation hubs including, but not being limited to, Pennsylvania Station, Grand Central Station, and the two Port Authority bus terminals, (iii) golf courses and skating rinks owned by the city of New York, (iv) public beaches, (v) cultural institutions and museums that receive funding from the city of New York, (vi) at each terminal located at an airport within the city of New York, (vii) public buildings including, but not being limited to, City Hall, the Municipal Building, the five Borough Halls and other city-owned or leased locations open to the general public, (viii) hotels and (ix) shopping centers and malls. b. Within 120 days of the effective date of the local law that added this section to the administrative code of the city of New York, an automatic external defibrillator shall be available at public places provided in subdivision a hereof, and such other locations as the commissioner shall require by regulation, for the purpose of responding to emergencies. �2.
