Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 1 of Title 17 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 17-184 to read as follows:
� 17-184 School nurses. a. The department shall make available on a full-time basis a nurse at each public and private primary and intermediate school which i) had at least one hundred students enrolled by the last day of the second month of the preceding school year; ii) requests such a nurse; and iii) maintains, pursuant to any requirements as may be promulgated by the commissioner, an appropriate medical room wherein such nurse can carry out his or her nursing duties. For the purposes of this section, "nurse" shall mean an individual licensed as a registered professional nurse pursuant to section 6905 of the New York state education law.
b. The commissioner may promulgate any rules that are necessary for the purposes of implementing and carrying out the provisions of this section.
�2. This local law shall take effect one hundred eighty days after its enactment.
