Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Title 27 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 27-4265.1 to read as follows:
§ 27-4265.1 Overcrowding. The number of occupants in any building or space shall not exceed the maximum number of occupants specified for such building or space by the certificate of occupancy or other authorization issued by the department of buildings, or, in the absence of such certificate or authorization, the maximum number of occupants established by using the appropriate occupant-area ratios from table 6-2 of chapter one of this title.
§2. This local law shall take effect immediately.
