Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 10 of the administrative code of the city of New York is hereby amended by adding a new section 10-116.1 to read as follows: §10-116.1 Damaging public and private monuments that pay tribute to America’s military forces or personnel prohibited. Any person who willfully and without authority breaks, defaces, disfigures, vandalizes, destroys or otherwise damages any public or private monument that pays tribute to America’s military forces or personnel or any portion thereof, or any appurtenances thereto, or any person who knowingly aids, abets, conceals or in any way assists any such person shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punishable by imprisonment of not more than one year or by a fine of not more than two thousand five hundred nor less than five hundred dollars, or both. In addition, any person violating this section shall be subject to a civil penalty not to exceed ten thousand dollars. §2. This local law shall take effect thirty days after it shall have been enacted into law. TB LS#373
