Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 20 of the New York city charter is hereby amended by adding a new section 530 to read as follows:
§530. Reporting of information regarding preparatory programs for specialized senior high schools. a. Definitions. For the purposes of this section:
1. “Department” shall mean the New York city department of education.
2. “Preparatory programs” shall mean any programs made available by the department of education for the purpose of assisting students who seek admission to specialized senior high schools.
3. “Specialized senior high schools” shall include The Bronx High School of Science, Stuyvesant High School, Brooklyn Technical High School, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and the Arts in the borough of Manhattan and such other schools which the New York city board of education may designate pursuant to section 2590-h(1)(b) of the New York state education law.
b. Annual report required. The department shall report to the city council once annually, on or before the first day of October, the following information with respect to the prior school year regarding preparatory programs for specialized senior high schools:
1. The number of such programs and the number of students enrolled in each such program, disaggregated by race and gender;
2. The percentage of enrolled students who successfully complete each such program, disaggregated by race and gender;
3. The percentage of students who successfully complete such programs who are accepted by a specialized senior high school, disaggregated by race and gender; and
4. For each specialized senior high school, the names of schools that the students in the entering class attended in the year preceding such students’ attendance at the specialized senior high school, and the percentage of students in the entering class who attended each such other school.
§2. This local law shall take effect immediately.
