Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter one of title 26 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 26-230.1 to read as follows: § 26-230.1 Protection of trees during construction. a. Whenever any construction or repair work is performed on or with respect to any building, sidewalk, curb or roadway, a protective guard shall be installed around every tree with more than a six-inch caliper that is not being removed as part of such construction or repair work, that is on or adjacent to such site, in order to prevent any harm or damage to the tree. b. The commissioner shall by rule determine from which materials such protective guard may be made, the size of such protective guard and the manner of its installation. §2.
