Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Section 27-3015 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new subdivision c to read as follows:
c. Applicants may renew a master electrician’s or special electrician’s license and seal by mail provided that the application for such renewal, accompanied by the renewal fees and such information as may be required by the commissioner, shall have been postmarked no earlier than three months and no later than two months prior to the expiration of the existing license. The commissioner may charge an additional handling fee not to exceed ten dollars for renewals received by mail. The department shall mail to the applicant a new license and seal, or a letter explaining why the application was rejected or the license denied, not later than two weeks prior to the expiration of the existing license. The department shall not be responsible for lost, misdelivered, or stolen mail either sent to or sent by the department, and the applicant shall be responsible for the cost of reissuing a lost, misdelivered, or stolen license.
§ 2. This local law shall take effect one hundred twenty days after enactment.
