Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Section 24-217 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended to read as follows: §24-217 Exemptions. The provisions of this code shall not apply to the operation or use of any organ, bell, chimes, sound device or apparatus or other similar instrument from on or within any church, synagogue, mosque or other house of worship, except that no sound emanating from such church, synagogue, mosque or other house of worship may exceed 70 dB(A) when measured at a distance of fifty feet or more from the sound source on a public right-of-way or any point within a receiving property lawfully occupied as a dwelling or dwelling unit. §2. This local law shall take effect one hundred eighty days after its enactment. LS # 904 TBD 1/18/11
