Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 18 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 18-140 to read as follows: §18-140 Sprinkler turnoff. On or before June 1, 2012, the department shall install a mechanism to turn off sprinklers in property under the jurisdiction of the department that are meant for use by the public. Such mechanism shall shut off such sprinklers after a fixed duration of time determined by the commissioner. There shall be a mechanism to turn the sprinklers back on when individuals want to use it. §2. This local law shall take effect immediately upon enactment. LF LS #1512 2/9/11
