Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 20 of the New York city charter is amended by adding a new section 530-g to read as follows: � 530-g Report of school safety officers to guidance counselors ratio. a. For the purposes of this section, the following terms shall have the following meanings: 1. "Department" shall mean the New York city department of education. 2. "Public school" shall mean any school in a building owned or leased by the department, including charter schools, that contains any combination of grades from kindergarten through grade twelve. 3. "Guidance counselor" shall mean a professional, certified by the New York state education department as a school counselor and licensed by the New York city department of education as a guidance counselor. b. The department shall compile information on the ratio of school safety officers to guidance counselors in each of the public schools within the department's jurisdiction. c. On or before July 1, 2015, and annually thereafter, the department shall provide a report to the council and post on the department's website the information compiled pursuant to subdivision b of this section for the prior calendar year or portion thereof. � 2.
