Summary

This local law would require the New York City Sheriff to notify appropriate personnel at the Department of Finance, the Department of Environmental Protection, and any company providing electrical and/or gas service, as well as the local Council Member, when a property is the subject of a deed fraud investigation. The Sheriff would be required to provide such notice at the commencement and closure (including the outcome) of the investigation.

Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 5 of title 7 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 7-517 to read as follows: �7-517 Notifications regarding deed fraud investigations. When the office of the sheriff commences an investigation into deed fraud involving property within the city, the sheriff shall notify appropriate personnel at the department of finance, the department of environmental protection, and the utility company or companies providing electrical and/or gas service to the applicable property, as well as the council member in whose district such property is located, that such property is the subject of an investigation. At the conclusion of such investigation, the sheriff shall further notify such parties regarding the outcome and that such investigation has been closed by the sheriff's office. �2.
