Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Subchapter 1 of chapter 1 of title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 19-159.6 to read as follows: � 19-159.6 Fire hydrant markers. a. The department shall mark the location of each fire hydrant situated adjacent to a public street using a symbol painted in the middle of the street, directly across from the fire hydrant, and shall maintain such markings so that they remain clearly visible. b. The absence of a marking required by this section shall not constitute a defense to a violation of any law prohibiting the obstruction of a fire hydrant. � 2.
