Summary

This bill would require the Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS), in coordination with the Office of Community Mental Health and any agencies identified by the commissioner to conduct outreach and engagement through social media, internet, radio, print media, or digital kiosks on mental health resources available to veterans and how to access such services. This bill further requires DVS to include on its website a form that allows organizations that provide mental health services to veterans to submit information about the services offered to the department for potential inclusion in the required outreach and engagement.

Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Title 31 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 31-114 to read as follows: � 31-114 Outreach and engagement on mental health resources. a. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the term "veteran" has the same meaning as set forth in section 3101 of the charter. b. The commissioner, in consultation with the office of community mental health and any agencies identified by the commissioner, shall conduct outreach and engagement regarding the availability of mental health resources for veterans. Such resources shall include, but need not be limited to, veteran crisis hotlines and mental health resources included in the veteran resource guide as described in section 31-108. c. In conducting such outreach and engagement, the department shall utilize social media, internet, radio, print media, or digital kiosks, and shall advise veterans as to how to obtain additional information about mental health resources for veterans. d. The department shall include on its website a form that allows non-profit organizations or other entities that provide mental health services to veterans to submit information about such services to the department. The commissioner may include such information in the outreach and engagement required by subdivision b of this section and in the veteran resource guide as described in section 31-108. � 2.
