Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Subchapter 3 of chapter 1 of title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 19-177.1 to read as follows: � 19-177.1 Speed limit for bicycles with electric assist. a. Definitions. For the purposes of this section, the term "bicycle with electric assist" has the same definition as contained in section 102-c of the vehicle and traffic law or successor provision. b. No person shall operate a bicycle with electric assist in excess of 15 miles per hour. c. Any person who violates subdivision b of this section is liable for a civil penalty not to exceed $50. � 2.
