Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. This list of referenced national standards of reference standard RS-16 of the appendix to chapter one of title twenty-seven of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended in part to add the following: ASSE 1050. Performance Requirements for Air Admittance Valves for Plumbing Drain, Waste and Vent Systems Stack Type Devices...............................1991 ANSI/ASSE 1050. Performance Requirements for Air Admittance Valves for Plumbing Drainage Systems -- Fixture and Branch Devices.......................1996 �2. Section P100.0 of reference standard RS-16 of the appendix to chapter one of title twenty-seven of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended in part to add the following definition: Air admittance valve. -- A one-way valve designed to allow air to enter the plumbing drainage system when a negative pressure develops in the piping system. The device shall close by gravity under zero differential pressure and seal under conditions of back pressure. �3. Reference Standard RS-16 of the appendix to chapter one of title twenty-seven of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section P109.12 to read as follows: P109.12 AIR ADMITTANCE VALVES (a) Where permitted. The use of air admittance valves in lieu of providing a vent stack through the roof shall be permitted in dwellings three stories or less in height. An individual vent pipe, branch vent, vent stack or stack vent shall be permitted to terminate with a connection to an air admittance valve. Air admittance valves shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installations and this section. (b) Individual and branch type air admittance valves. Individual and branch type air admittance valves shall conform to ANSI-ASSE 1051. Individual and branch type air admittance valves shall only vent fixtures located on the same floor level. (c) Stack type air admittance valves. Stack type air admittance valves shall conform to ASSE 1050. Stack type air admittance valves shall be permitted to vent fixtures on different floor levels. (d) Location. Individual and branch type air admittance valves shall be located a minimum of four inches above the weir of the ban. Stack type air admittance valves shall be located a minimum of six inches above the flood level rim of the highest fixtures being vented and a minimum of six inches above building insulation material. Air admittance valves shall be located within the maximum developed length permitted for the vent piping. (e) Access and ventilation. All air admittance valves shall be accessible and located within a ventilated space that allows air to enter the valve. (f) Size. The air admittance valve shall be rated for the diameter size of the pipe to which it is connected. (g) Vent to outdoors. A minimum of one four inch stack shall extend outdoors to the open air for every plumbing system. (h) Limitation of installation. Air admittance valves shall not be located within supply or return air plenums. Air admittance valves shall not be used to provide a flow of air to a sewage ejector. �4.
