Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section one. Title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding thereto a new chapter 7 to follow chapter 6 and to read as follows:
Section one. Chapter 7. Speed limits near schools.
�19-701. Speed limits near school buildings.
(a) The maximum speed limit for any motor vehicle operated on any portion of a highway passing a school building shall be fifteen miles per hour for three hundred feet in either direction from the building line of any school abutting on the highway.
(b) The commissioner shall within thirty days after this section becomes effective post signs where required, indicating the speed limit established by subdivision (a) of this section.
�2. This local law shall take effect thirty days after its enactment into law.
