Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Subdivision a of section 2903 of chapter 71 of the New York City Charter is hereby amended by the addition of a new paragraph (l8), to follow paragraph (17), to read as follows:
(l8) erect neighborhood crime watch signs;
(a) The department shall erect neighborhood crime watch signs, the design of which shall be as provided in a rule to be promulgated by the commissioner, upon the request of a local community group and upon the affirmative vote of the community board for the area within which the signs are proposed to be erected.
(b) The local community group proposing to erect and maintain such neighborhood crime watch signs shall be responsible for all costs related to providing such signs to the department and for such periodic maintenance and replacement as may be required by the commissioner.
�2. This local law shall take effect immediately.
