Summary

This bill would require the Department of Environmental Protection to post on its website a map of all green roofs in the city. The map would also include some information about each green roof, including the type of building, the area of the roof and the area covered by the green roof system, the capacity of the green roof to absorb water and the function or functions of the green roof.

Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 5 of title 24 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 24-531 to read as follows: � 24-531 Green roof map. a. The commissioner, in collaboration with the department of buildings, shall publish on the department's website a map showing the location of every green roof, as defined in section 24-526.1, in the city. b. For each green roof indicated on the map, the map shall at a minimum provide the following information: 1. The occupancy group of the building or structure; 2. The area of the roof in square feet; 3. The area of the portion of the roof covered by the green roof system in square feet; 4. The estimated amount of water such green roof has the capacity to absorb; and 5. Any functions of the green roof, which may include, but need not be limited to, aesthetic, water retention, recreational, farming or any other function designated by the department. � 2. This local law takes effect 90 days after it becomes law, except that the commissioner of environmental protection shall take such measures as are necessary for the implementation of this local law, including the promulgation of rules, before such date.
