Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 2 of title 12 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 12-216 to read as follows: � 12-216 Civil service examination waivers. a. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the following terms have the following meanings: Civil service examination. The term "civil service examination" means a competitive examination administered in accordance with the civil service law to determine the merit and fitness of applicants for the civil service. Department. The term "department" means the department of citywide administrative services. High school. The term "high school" means a school of the city school district of the city of New York that contains any combination of grades from and including grade 9 through grade 12. Student. The term "student" means any pupil who does not have a high school diploma and who is enrolled in a high school. b. The department may waive the fee for a civil service examination for any individual who meets one of the following conditions at the time of filing for the examination: 1. The individual is a high school student; or 2. The individual has not filed for a civil service examination administered by the department. � 2.
