Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 30 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 30-117 to read as follows: � 30-117 Wildfire mitigation. a. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the term "wildfire" means an unplanned and unwanted or uncontrolled fire occurring in a natural area such as a forest, grassland, park, or empty lot that requires fire suppression. b. Hazard assessment and mitigation. The commissioner, in consultation with the department of parks and recreation, department of environmental protection, fire department, police department, and any other appropriate agency or office, shall assess the risks to the city posed by wildfires, and develop strategies to proactively mitigate risks and reduce potential losses to human life and property from wildfires. c. Report. 1. No later than October 1, 2026, and every 5 years thereafter, the commissioner shall submit to the mayor and the speaker of the council and post on the office's website, a report on risks assessed and strategies developed in accordance with subdivision b of this section. The report shall include documentation of the planning process used to develop the risk mitigation and loss reduction strategies and information on who was involved in the creation of the plan including the factual basis for the risk assessment and proposed strategies. 2. Inclusion of the potential risks from wildfires in a hazard mitigation plan produced by the office pursuant to chapter 68 of title 42 of the United States code shall satisfy the reporting requirements of this section. � 2.
