Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Title 17 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 17-193 to read as follows:
§17-193. Instructions for Preventing Communicable Diseases. a. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the following terms shall have the following meanings:
1. “City” shall mean the city of New York.
2. “Communicable diseases” shall mean the common cold, influenza and Staphylococcus.
3. “Day care center” shall mean any child day care facility operating in the city that is required to obtain a license from, or to register with, the department pursuant to the health code of the city of New York and/or the New York state department of social services pursuant to section 390 of the New York state social services law.
4. “School” shall mean any public or private elementary or secondary school.
b. Instructions for preventing communicable diseases. The department shall provide schools and day care centers with signs containing instructions for students and faculty regarding how to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
c. Posting. Every school and day care center shall post the instructions required to be provided pursuant to this section in bathrooms, gyms, locker rooms and any other area deemed appropriate by the department.
§2. This local law shall take effect thirty days after enactment.
