Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Section 26 of the charter of the city of New York, as amended by local law number 41 for the year 1999, is amended by adding a new subdivision d to read as follows:
d. Any changes to council member salary must be voted on by the council no later than 30 days prior to any primary, general, or special election to be held within the calendar year, and any such pay increase shall not be effective until the first day of January following the next general election of the city council.
§2. This local law shall take on the first day of January of the year immediately following its approval by vote of the electorate.
