Be it enacted by the Council as follows: Section 1. Chapter 1 of title 14 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 14-193 to read as follows: � 14-193 Crime victim identity information. a. Upon request of a victim of a crime of violence, the police department shall not disclose the name of such victim in reports made available to the public in accordance with Public Officers Law � 87(2). b. Nothing in this section prohibits the police department from disclosing the name of a victim of a crime of violence in a criminal or civil court proceeding or when the commissioner has determined that such disclosure is necessary to protect the public safety. � 2.
